‘I wouldn’t put on weight again for another film’ – Bhumi Pednekar

Her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha for which she put on about 30 Kg was a super-hit! So would Bhumi Pednekar pile on the kilos for another movie? Her answer is NO!

Q) Bhumi you have carved a niche for yourself in Bollywood. Do you feel like a star?

It’s true I have made a unique place for myself in the industry. In Dum Laga Ke Haisha, my very first film I played an overweight woman, in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan a girl who is in love with a man who suffers from erectile dysfunction and of course Toilet : Ek Prem Katha was another distinctive story. And all the films did well, but I still don’t consider myself a star. This is just the beginning of my career!

Q) You have two back to back hits – Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Toilet : Ek Prem Katha!

I am so happy that both the films were successful. Both of them gave me an identity. That’s the reason I feel on top of the world!

Q) How much credit would you give yourself for these films?

When a film is a hit every one benefits. And no one person can claim credit for a film’s success, it’s team work, and everyone from the director to the actor to the cameraman works hard. That’s why it wouldn’t be right to give the credit to myself for a film’s success.

Q) In Dum Laga Ke Haisha you were seen as a grossly overweight girl. Wasn’t that a risk for a debut film?

Where was the question of a risk? I was sure that the audience would like the story. And I firmly believe that any actress is recognized by her work and not her looks. Anyway putting on weight and losing weight is in our hands and I lost all the weight I had put on, and am very fit now.

Q) If you are asked to put on weight for another film would you do it again?

No, I wouldn’t put on weight again because I realized how difficult it was to return to my normal weight. I did it once but if I were to do it again and again it would affect my health.

Q) The audience has loved the kind of films you have done. But now are ou looking at something different?

I haven’t given it much thought. I will do whichever good films I am offered. It’s just the beginning, there’s a lot to do. I should get the opportunities now.

Q) Between your two costars Akshay Kumar and Ayushmann Khurrana, who is better?

Both are equally talented and good persons. Akshay is a prankster but very responsible and Ayushmann is a bit reserved, but both are very good natured. For me both are the best!

Q) What would be your advise to girls who want to become actresses?

If one has a dream to become an actress, if one is willing to work hard and has confidence in ones talent, then one should try ones luck in films. And I can say with full confidence that if you are right then no one can take advantage of you. If one wants to take short cuts then the loss is theirs!
