‘Smriti’s beauty weaved its magic on me’ – Sanjay Kapoor *EXCLUSIVE*

After 13 years Sanjay Kapoor will be seen on Star Plus in the upcoming drama Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara. The interesting part is that he plays husband to Smriti Kalra almost 23 years his junior! Read on to get a glimpse into the interesting saga

Q) What is the Star Plus serial Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara all about?

Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara is a family drama and revolves around Ahana Raichand played by Smriti Kalra. Through her journey human relationships and emotions have been presented. Ahana gets married to Anant Mathur played by me. I am a caring and loving husband, but there is something which is not all right with their relationship. The serial shows how Ahana fights her inner emotions and how despite coming from a broken relationship she keeps the sanctity of her marriage.

Q) What is Anant Mathur like?

Anant Mathur is a sweet, rich man. He is pleasant, good-hearted and it’s these qualities which make him endearing. He loves his wife Ahana and his family and even though their relationship is not quite right, he is impressed by her maturity and her deep love for the family, and slowly starts falling in love with her. The character has been written beautifully and when Vikram Bhatt (Bollywood director and the serial’s producer) narrated it to me I fell in love with it.

Q) Did you need to prep for the character?

Not really, because the feelings that Anant displays came naturally from within me. Smriti is very beautiful. Her beauty weaved its magic on me and all the feelings came out. There were also a lot of interactions and conversations during the workshops and our chemistry will be there for all to see.

Q) Why did you choose Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara as your comeback after almost 13 years?

It’s not that I was waiting to make a comeback on television after Karishma: The Miracles Of Destiny. But this show was a today’s story and very different from the usual fare on television and Vikram’s way of presenting it was unique. I was motivated to come back on TV. It’s not a regular romantic story and I didn’t want to let go of it.

Q) Vikram is an established Bollywood director. How was it working with him as producer on a television show?

Vikram and I have known each other for very long now and wanted to work together for a film. But finally it is this television show which brought us together. I am happy that we could work together.

Q) You have worked with Niki Aneja in the film Shaandar. How was it this time round on a television serial?

Niki is a fabulous actress and a very lively person. When she’s around there is always laughter. She is a good entertainer and during the shooting of Shaandar there was a so much dhamaal on the sets and it was the same when shooting for DSJZ. I am very comfortable working with her.

Q) How do you view the television medium today?

Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are all doing television. The medium is bigger than films and I am very happy to be associated with it.
