On October 11 Amitabh Bachchan turns 75! Once again the mega star will have family, friends and fans will inundate him with best wishes. How does the actor feel on this day, his most cherished birthday gift and more; exclusive only here on TellyTadka!!!
Q) Amitji how excited do you feel on your birthdays?
To tell you the truth, there was a time when I used to get very excited on my birthday. My father Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan used to celebrate my birthdays and I used to start counting the days before the day and loved collecting the gifts I got. Today more than me it’s my family and fans who are excited. That is why even today I consider myself young
Q) So what are the plans for this year?
I want to celebrate my birthday in a very simple way but my family and fans always have some plan for me. Even this year I would like to keep it simple but I don’t know what surprise my family has planned for me.
Q) Which has been the best birthday wish for you till date?
When my granddaughter Aaradhya wished me last year it was truly unique! Her mother, Aishwarya had told her to sing happy birthday for me but instead of singing happy birthday to me she sang it for her herself! I found that so cute.
Q) And what about birthday gifts?
The best gift is my fans’ wishes. In the last 46 years I have got many gifts made by fans and also by my family members which are very memorable and I hold them very dear to me. A few years ago Jaya (his wife Jaya Bachchan) organized a big party for me on my 70th birthday where almost the entire industry turned up. Aishwarya and Abhishek gave me lovely gifts on the occasion. I still have them.
Q) Did you ever think the entire nation will celebrate your birthday?
Never in my wildest dream did I imagine that. Initially I did not even think that I would become an actor! I am fortunate that I got the love of so many people and it’s because of their love that I am still doing films. I promise my fans that till I am alive I will continue doing films.
Q) Big or small screen, you have made a mark. How do you manage that?
I just do my work with full diligence. Nothing is big or small for me. Maybe that’s the reason I am successful in whatever I do. I do the work wholeheartedly and leave the rest to God.
Q) Talking about your childhood what was Amitabh Bachchan like then?
The young Amitabh Bachchan was very shy and took time to put his thoughts across. Though I changed myself according to the situations, even today if I am asked to speak in a crowd I get tense and very conscious because I know millions of eyes are on me.
Q) You are working long hours even today. Don’t you feel tired?
Even today people want me in their films and endorsements. I like it when they approach me for work. I never feel tired when it comes to work. In fact I feel old and very insecure when I sit at home doing nothing. Acting is my passion and I want to work till I die.
Q) You are a son, husband, father and now grandfather. Which relationship do you cherish the most?
I am Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s son and that relationship was the most sacred to me. My father was a writer and poet and I have seen adulation since I was very young. I feel very proud to be my father’s son!
Q) How do you look at life at this point?
I have no regrets when I look back. I have got everything I had dreamed about and even what I had not.
Q) Any wish you have which is unfulfilled?
Yes, I want to write a book but never seem to get the time. Besides I wanted to learn music and a musical instrument.
Q) Your posts on twitter and other social media display your skills as a writer. Do you have ambitions of turning a writer?
I don’t think I have writing skills or I ever think of becoming a writer. I just started writing on social media because it fascinated me and my followers went upto two crores 75 lakhs, and soon they were like family and friends and I continued.
Q) What would you like to say to today’s clutch of actors?
I consider myself fortunate that I am getting the chance to work with this generation. They are all so talented and it’s because of them the medium of cinema is becoming more powerful.
Q) What is the philosophy of your of life?
Man ka ho toh achcha, man ka na ho toh aur bhi acha! (If things happen as you wish the good, if they don’t even better!)
