Getting serious- Sumona Chakravarti

We have seen her being teased and taunted in The Kapil Sharma Show! Now watch the petite and pretty Sumona Chakravarti as Meera Desai in the detective thriller Dev!

Q) After a crackling comedy like The Kapil Sharma Show you are seen in a rather serious avatar in Dev. What can we expect in the series?

Dev is a weekend detective thriller which is very entertaining. My co-star Aashish Chaudhary plays a detective who solves cases, while I play Meera Desai who communicates with the dead. But she is not all that powerful to do this and at times fools the public and is caught red handed by Dev. However they get along famously and share a good bonding and a different story takes off. I play a single mother in the serial and have my own track. Though I was discouraged to play a mother because I look so young I decided to take on the infinite series because it was different from what I have done earlier.

Q) How is Aashish Chaudhary as a co-star?

He’s wonderful! Not only is he a good actor, he is a good person at heart and a walking cartoon network and there is never a dull moment when he’s around! Time flies when you are working with him because he has you in splits all the time!

Q) How was it playing a medium of dead?

Personally I have not had any experience of playing a medium with the supernatural and I wouldn’t like to do it. But I have heard when there is an unnatural death and when due to some reason the soul is not at peace and keeps floating it can be captured by tantrik powers and there can be communication with them. The series is also full of adventure and I really enjoyed working in it.

Q) Talking about The Kapil Sharma Show, you were ridiculed a lot in it. Was it not embarrassing?

Initially I did feel a little embarrassed but then I realized that it was the nature of the show, so accepted it and stopped feeling bad. And if you are married you understand that this kind of taunting and teasing is common between husband and wife and a husband always pulls his spouse’s legs. And that was brought out in the show, and since it’s a comedy show I don’t take it as a personal attack.

Q) What do you have to say about the controversy around Kapil Sharma and the fight with his co-stars?

Since the show is very popular every little aspect makes headlines and likewise the fight between Kapil and his co-actors which was in the news consistently. I don’t want to comment on it except that what happened was not right and it affected the show. Kapil does not believe in clarifying and only speaks through his work.

Q) Did you feel any risk of being typecast once you were applauded in Kapil’s show?

No, there was no question of being typecast. I have been associated with the show since the beginning. It not only made me very popular but also gave me a chance to show my acting skills. And I have played other kind of roles too.

Q) Like playing Ram Kapoor’s sister in Bade Achche Lagte Hain.

Bade Acche Lagte is one of my favorite shows and it gave me recognition. And Ram Kapoor is one of the finest persons. Even now when he meets me he gives me the same respect. I have very fond memories of the show as the entire unit was like a family.

Q) What about films? Are you looking at the big screen?

It’s every actor’s dream to do movies and so is mine. I have even done small roles in films like Barfi! But now I would like to do films only if I am offered a good role with more screen time!

Q) What would you like to say about Kapil Sharma?

Kapil is a special person who has proved that nothing in life is impossible. That one can do achieve any goal in life if one is talented and determined. Kapil is not only extremely talented but he is down-to-earth and cannot bear to see anyone down. He loves his mother to death, looks after his team, and of course he has an impeccable comic timing. It’s because of all these qualities that he has millions of fans.
