The movie Begum Jaan, directed by Srijit Mukherji, is Jam Packed with great star casts like Vidya Balan, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Chunky Pandey, Naseeruddin Shah and much more. This movie was a great amalgam of story and direction but did lack at some places.
The story takes us back to the time, where the scenario of the division of India and Pakistan was going on. This was decided by Sir Cyril Radcliffe. But they didn’t count the territory of the brothel which was run by Begum Jaan (Vidya Balan) since it went unnoticed. The brothel lands between the India and Pakistan Border. All the administrators, kings go to Begum Jaan’s Brothel for fulfilling sexual desires.
Making movies about the Pre-independence times was always a tedious task since many factors are needed to be considered. Be it, religion, patriotism, nothing should be offensive to the masses. This movie successfully settles itself in this criteria. Vidya Balan is always the one who choose movies with one of the great stories. The music is below average and it didn’t have much gravitas on the movie. Vidya Balan gave full justification to the role of a Prostitute and the direction is amazing as it goes in a perfect flow with the plot. The ending of the movie is so great that it will make you much satisfied with it.
Vidya Balan will amaze you with her gracious portray of her character in the movie. The Supporting actors have taken it up a notch making them pretty noticeable on the screens. Overall it is a great catch for a one time watch.
