Actor-model Siddharth Shukla started his television career with Sony’s Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na and went on to make a name for himself as Balika Vadhu’s Shivraj Alok Shekhar. Soon after he showed his acting chops in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania went on to showcase his dance moves in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and his daredevilry in Khatron Ke Khiladi. Presently seen as Parth Bhanushali in Dil Se Dil Tak, the hunky Siddharth talks about his his new show, his single status and much more
Siddharth, Dil Se Dil Tak is an all new show. What is the kind of response you have been getting?
It’s too early to say, but yes, all those who watch the serial have loved it. I think the lightheartedness has added to the serious story, making it more endearing. My fans have congratulated me on the show, and how they like the light moments.
Can you elaborate on your character Parth?
Parth is from an affluent Gujarati family. He is a romantic and very intelligent. He falls in love with a Bengali girl Shorvori (Rashami Desai) and despite stiff opposition from his family he gets married to her. Then this vivacious and jovial girl Teni (Jasmin Bhasin) comes into the couple’s life and his life undergoes a change. I am really enjoying playing this character as it has many shades and I am getting a chance to prove my acting prowess.
Surrogacy has been touched upon in the serial. What is your take on this issue in real life?
Everyone has their take on surrogacy. It depends on the situation and whether one should go in for surrogacy or not. As far as my personal opinion is concerned I have never given this issue much thought as I am single, so have not thought about having a child.
You have been paired opposite two beautiful ladies, Rashami and Jasmin. How similar or different are they?
Rashami is very beautiful. When she make her appearance on screen she commands all the attention. Jasmin, on the other, is not only talented but extremely hardworking, and she keeps on giving a shot till it is perfect.
You have many intimate scenes with Rashami Desai in the serial. Does it get awkward when shooting?
Rashami and I became good friends during the shooting and were very comfortable with each other. And she gives romantic shots with such ease that I never feel awkward.
You are paired with two beauties in the serial but in real life you are single! Comment!
Arey it’s because there is no one in my life, I thought why not romance two girls on screen (laughs)!
We have heard your mother is looking for a girl for you! Would you go in for an arranged marriage?
No, no who told you my mother is on the lookout for a girl for me? I have two sisters and both had love marriages so my mother told me that I should also select a girl for myself or I will stay a bachelor!
You are back on television after a stint with films. Is it because you did not get any offers?
It would be wrong to say that I did not get any offers. I would say I did not get good offers. Anyways I had never left television and was always associated with it in some way or the other, be it a reality show or as an anchor. I am what I am today because of TV. When I came into the industry I could not even say my dialogues properly. I will never leave television. I believe instead of waiting for good film offers it’s better to continue working on TV. It has taught me acting skills and honed my dancing as I only knew action when I came here in 2008.
What changes do you see in yourself over the years?
To be honest, I never took myself seriously at first. I took up whatever work came my way and never gave much thought to my work and did exactly as the director asked of me. But now I am very serious about my career. Now I give my 100 per cent and try to add something new to my craft.
On the personal front who are you the closest to you in real life?
My mother! I love her and do whatever she asks of me. Whenever I achieve anything in life it’s my mothers approval I look up to. I feel happy when my mother is happy.
Tell us, even if a man has the most beautiful wife he is attracted to other women. Why?
Because beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and when it comes to love, it’s not a face but the heart which pulls you. Love sees honesty and true love in the other person. So even if a man has a beautiful wife he may fall for someone else!
