Balika Vadhu: A show with a strong social message Balika Vadhu was one of the longest running shows of Color TV. The show which began with the initiation of the channel told the story of Anandi- a child bride and traced her challenging journey from that of a young girl to woman who fought social evils at every juncture of her life. The show focused on the unfortunate situation of Anandi and Jagya who were forced into marriage due to age-old customs and traditions. Oblivious to what is happening the duo are left to carry the repercussions of decisions made by elders for the rest of their lives. As the two grow up we see Jagya falling in love with another woman which breaks Anandi’s heart but eventually the circumstances in her life helps her become an independent woman. She moves on in life and marries Shiv which was a hugely popular track. The concept of woman empowerment shown through BV was highly applauded by the audience and one of the prime reasons why the show became such a raging success.

Uttaran: Shows that revolve around childhood friendships are always a treat to watch, and the scenario where a rich child befriends a poor one has its own charm. However, the story of Tapasya – the daughter of a wealthy couple and Ichcha the daughter of a poor, live-in domestic help caught the audience attention instantly as the latter used the clothes, toys and other possessions that were cast-off (Uttaran) by Tapasya. But soon jealousy creeps into Tapasya’s mind as Ichcha wins over everyone’s heart with her good nature and character. Though still friends Tapasya begins to dislike Ichcha and things get worse when Veer Singh Bundela falls for the simple Ichcha instead of Tapasya. In one of the most watched episodes ever Ichcha falls for Tapasya’s crocodile tears and emotional blackmails and gives Tapasya her Veer and claims him to be ‘Ichcha’s Uttaran to Tapasya’ paving way for one of Indian TV’s unforgettable bride swap moments.

Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha: The story of Mohan and Megha; Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha may not have had a long run like many other shows on Colors, but it was class apart and remains a crown jewel in Colors’ crown.
